Jackson mayoral hopefuls host meeting

JACKSON, MS (MSNewsNow) - Jackson residents asked questions and heard from mayoral hopefuls Thursday night at Jackson City NAACP Branch Candidate Forum.

"We've got about 40 people running for city council seats and then we got 14 running for the mayor's seat, and we cannot just let this opportunity go by without at least letting the public hear from these candidates," said chapter president Wayne McDaniels.

Thirteen of the 14 candidates were there to speak or sent a representative.

A march to bring awareness and more funding to Mississippi’s fight against AIDS is coming to Fondren tomorrow at 9am.  18 year old Bob Gilchrist says he will lead a group from Fondren Plaza at Rainbow Co-op to the State Capitol to not only bring awareness to the diesease but to Jackson’s gay community. A press conference is set for 11am on the steps of the Capitol.

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Justis Gibbs, the president of the sophomore class at Murrah High School, and his family will be in the audience Tuesday night when President Barack Obama delivers the State of the Union address.

Justis, along with his mother, Debra Gibbs, and sister, Ariana, a junior at Spelman College and a 2009 Murrah graduate, will be the guests of Rep. Bennie Thompson, Rep.
