The late artist Miriam Weems would be proud. A cause she cared so much about is coming home to Jackson by November’s end. Weems’ neighbor and friend, Elizabeth “Pippa” Jackson, is moving her Animal Rescue Fund of Mississippi (ARF) to Mayes Street, just west of Fondren. The 54 year old full time realtor and ARF executive director says she will name the kennel in honor of Weems who passed away last summer. “Miriam was one of our biggest cheerleaders,” Jackson says. “She was compassionate and cared for everyone, particularly rescued animals. This is my way of honoring her and keeping her memory alive.”

Friends of the Mississippi Animal Rescue League will host Mutts, Martinis, and Merlot “a CockTAIL party”, Thursday, Sept. 27, at 7 p.m. at the Greater Jackson Arts Council Building at 255 E. Pascagoula St., in Jackson.

Join the party for great music from the Time to Move Band, great food, drinks, silent auctions, raffles and a photo booth.

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Madison Ark Animal Rescue has received an outpouring of donations and support after posting a picture on Facebook of a severely neglected dog the organization rescued in Jackson this week.

Tuesday, a Madison Ark volunteer found Mac on Downing Street in Jackson’s Fondren neighborhood. He was lying in the road near death.

“He was a few breaths away from dying,” said Director Hart Koller.
