Jackson councilwoman hosts meeting to help city's homeless | News
JACKSON, MS (WLBT)- A Jackson councilwoman is hoping more assistance from city hall can help the homeless.
Larita Cooper Stokes hosted a public meeting Sunday to hear how city leaders can assist the homeless in getting off the streets.
The Ward 3 Councilwoman says jobs are the key to combating the problem. She believes informing the homeless on the options available to them and possibly finding new programs can help.
Those without out a home say shelters and food banks are doing what they can. However, a different kind of support is needed before the homeless can find work.
"Getting themselves groomed together, getting them to learn how to fill out resumes for jobs. These type of things, a lot of people out here on the street have no knowledge of or don't know how to do, and there needs to be some assistance to help them get in that position where they can go out and get them some jobs," said Michael Hunter, who is homeless and looking for work.
Stokes plans to have more public meetings to assist the homeless.
