Catholics mark the end of The Year of the Eucharist | News
JACKSON, MS (WLBT)- Jackson area Catholics mark the end of The Year of the Eucharist in downtown Jackson on Sunday afternoon.
The procession is part of the Holy Communion celebration for the church.
Nearly 500 people from parishes in the Catholic Diocese of Jackson attended.
Alter stops were set up on Capitol, Congress, and Amite Streets during the procession.
The event wrapped up at St. Peter's Cathedral.
One church leader says the public display of faith is needed in today's society.
"I'd say the last 50 or 60 years that we've sort of gotten away from those things, and I think it's important for us to do that. I think we are criticized a lot for what people think we think in faith, and I think this is a visible expression of what we believe," says Bishop Joseph Latino.
Some members also say this event shows unity within the church.
