Jackson VA named top performing hospital

The G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson was named one of the nation’s top performers on key quality measures by the Joint Commission.

The Joint Commission is the leading accreditor of healthcare organizations in America, according to a news release from VAMC.

The G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VAMC was recognized based on data reported about clinical processes that are shown to improve care for certain conditions, including heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care.

 

Free vaccinations for JPS seniors, response required by Friday

JACKSON, MS - The Mississippi State Department of Health is offering free adolescent vaccinations to Jackson Public School District's High School Seniors. Consent forms were sent home with students on Wednesday,  and must be returned to school no later than Friday, Sept. 16.

Eat for the health of it with MyPlate

MISSISSIPPI STATE – The U.S. Department of Agriculture introduced a new, user-friendly icon designed to make healthy eating easier.

MyPlate, the new graphic, depicts a round plate divided into four colored sections, labeled fruits, vegetables, grains and protein. A circle, labeled dairy, represents a glass of milk. The icon is part of the education campaign for the latest Dietary Guidelines for Americans.

Mark F. Slyter, FACHE, has been named CEO of Baptist Health Systems in Jackson, replacing Kurt W. Metzner, FACHE, who retired Aug. 31.

Baptist Health Systems is the parent company of Baptist Medical Center.

UMMC welcomes in vitro fertilization specialist

JACKSON, MS - The University of Mississippi Medical Center has welcomed a new addition to their Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology who will lead the in vitro fertilization (IVF) program in the IVF Clinic.

Dr. J. Preston Parry, a specialist in reproductive endocrinology and infertility is moving from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, according to a news release from UMMC.
