The Mississippi Department of Transportation is making an effort to increase mobility for all citizens in Mississippi.
MDOT will host the fifth annual statewide coordination summit this week. All people with an interest in increasing mobility options in their communities is invited.
The Summit will be held on July 12 and 13 at the Jackson Convention Complex located at 105 Pascagoula Street. This year's theme is "The Survivor Series: Meeting the Challenges in a Changing Economy."
Throughout Mississippi, significant progress is being made in the coordination of public and specialized transportation resources. As we continue to address quality of life issues throughout our state, coordinating transportation resources and improving access to services remain priorities as we strive to meet the goal of increased mobility for all citizens, the press release stated.
This two-day event is free to the public. Registration begins at 11 a.m. and program activities begin at noon on Tuesday, July 12 and conclude at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13. Lunch will be provided on both days.
Public Transit Director Shirley Wilson stated that "This year's Summit will be an excellent opportunity for stakeholders to engage transportation providers about not only the needs in local communities but to also discuss practical solutions."
The goal of this summit is to provide participants with the opportunity to discuss resourceful service approaches to survive in the economy and excel through effective partnership building, decision making, and strategic planning. Activities include reports on local planning efforts and statewide initiatives aimed at improving transportation coordination.
Participants who are encouraged to attend the Summit include public officials, public and private transportation providers, consumers, human and social service agencies, disability advocacy groups, state agencies, health care providers, faith-based and community organizations, university researchers and students, along with other groups and organizations that are interested in improving the mobility options in their communities.
