JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - There was a ceremony in downtown Jackson Monday morning at the Hinds County Courthouse honoring those who gave their all in defense of this country in all conflicts going back to World War I.
A wreath was placed on the monument, in front of the courthouse, which has the names of more than 500-soldiers, sailors and airmen who lost their lives in combat in World War I, World War II, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. About 60 people came to listen to the ceremony, which featured as one of the speakers WLBT News Director Dennis Smith who is a retired colonel from the Mississippi Army National Guard.
"Today is the day we honor the members of our nation's armed forces, who protect us from harm, and sometimes domestic enemies" said Smith. "We owe it to all of them never to forget their sacrifice, and their family's sacrifice to duty, honor and country. God bless all of our fallen heroes, all of the families, God bless America."
Hinds County Board of Supervisors President Robert Graham was one of those placing the wreath on the monument.
