Jackson mayoral candidates debate Jeopardy style

Democrats businessman Jonathan Lee, and Jackson City Councilman Chokwe Lumumba joined Independent candidate Richard "Chip" Williams to compete in a Jeopardy styled debate.

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now)- In less than a week, the two Democratic candidates for Mayor of Jackson will find out who will face an independent challenger for the city's top office.

There was a humorous take on political debate in an event hosted by the Leadership Greater Jackson Alumni Association at the Old Capitol Inn Tuesday night.

Frank Bluntson endorses Jonathan Lee

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now)- The man leading the race for Jackson mayor just picked up support from a former opponent.

Ward 4 Councilman Frank Bluntson endorsed businessman Jonathan Lee Sunday.

Lee received 34% of the vote and will face Jackson Ward 2 Councilman Chokwe Lumumba in the runoff.

Bluntson says he endorsed lee because they share similar platforms, particularly unifying the city.

Lee, Lumumba prepare for Runoff Election

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now)- We are now just hours away from Jackson's mayoral Runoff Election between candidates Jonathan Lee and Chokwe Lumumba.

With voters planning to hit the polls Tuesday morning at 7 a.m., Lee says his campaign isn't planning any major surprises.

"Today is another day. We're canvassing. We're making phone call. We've got campaign staff really working hard. We've put in the work," states Lee.

Traffic Alert: Old Canton Road & Crane Blvd.

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now)- The City of Jackson Department of Public Works has closed Old Canton Road at Crane Blvd for emergency sewer repair. The repairs are expected to take two weeks.

If you travel Old Canton Road between State Street and Meadowbrook Road, this will probably affect you.

Motorists are urged to observe all traffic control devices, and detour signs have been posted.

My Turn: Election Shocker

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now)- Throw out all the polls showing Chokwe Lumumba trailing in the Jackson mayor's race, polls don't vote. With just the formality of the general election left it appears that Lumumba pulled of a shocker and will be Jackson's next mayor.

Can we all be honest about this election? Most white voters and the business community are scared of Lumumba and his controversial views. Most African American voters felt that Jonathan Lee was too closely aligned with conservative whites.

Lee says no regrets with mayoral campaign

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now)- Jonathan Lee says he doesn't have any regrets about his campaign for Jackson mayor. He was a political newcomer and is thankful for the name recognition and support he received over the past several months.

Lee supporters gathered at the Penguin Restaurant to watch results come in, but the mood dampened quickly as they realized a victory wasn't in store for Lee.

Still, the crowd applauded as Lee and his family walked in.

Lumumba wins Jackson Democratic Party Runoff

The votes are in, and preliminary results show Chokwe Lumumba has come out on top in the Democratic Party Runoff Election against Jonathan Lee.

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now)- The votes are in, and preliminary results show Chokwe Lumumba has come out on top in the Democratic Party Runoff Election against Jonathan Lee.

With 100% of precincts reporting, Lumumba claims the election with 20,180 votes as compared to Lee's 17,103. The city councilman and attorney stated Monday that his platform has been and will remain equality and human rights.
