Lee says no regrets with mayoral campaign

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now)- Jonathan Lee says he doesn't have any regrets about his campaign for Jackson mayor. He was a political newcomer and is thankful for the name recognition and support he received over the past several months.

Lee supporters gathered at the Penguin Restaurant to watch results come in, but the mood dampened quickly as they realized a victory wasn't in store for Lee.

Still, the crowd applauded as Lee and his family walked in.

Lumumba wins Jackson Democratic Party Runoff

The votes are in, and preliminary results show Chokwe Lumumba has come out on top in the Democratic Party Runoff Election against Jonathan Lee.

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now)- The votes are in, and preliminary results show Chokwe Lumumba has come out on top in the Democratic Party Runoff Election against Jonathan Lee.

With 100% of precincts reporting, Lumumba claims the election with 20,180 votes as compared to Lee's 17,103. The city councilman and attorney stated Monday that his platform has been and will remain equality and human rights.

IRS protest in downtown Jackson

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now)- The Mississippi Tea Party carried a nationwide protest of the IRS to the streets of downtown Jackson at high noon. The issue is IRS security of conservative groups like the Tea Party.

We found some 20-25 protestors carrying signs and waving American flags Tuesday. The Mississippi Tea Party claims it was one of 500 groups nationwide harassed by the IRS.

The White House now admits several top officials knew the IRS targeted conservative organizations for extra scrutiny. That information was reportedly not passed on to the President.

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now)- For relief agencies and groups across the state, the tornado that ripped through Oklahoma has put them on notice.

"All the fuel tanks are topped off. The trucks are loaded and when and if we get the call, we'll be prepared to go in a matter of hours," said William Perkins with the Mississippi Baptist Convention.

Perkins says he does expect that call to happen given the amount of damage and expected recovery time.

Buddy & The Squids is an instrumental surf band formed in 2011 by drummer Daniel Guaqueta, guitarist Brent Varner, and bassist Tyler Baker. The trio concocted the idea in between church services one day at First Baptist Church in Madison.
